THE CARISM^® TOOLS

A FORMULA FOR CAREER EMPOWERMENT

CARISM^® is a unique career development tool specially conceived to increase performance in student services of post-secondary institutions, particularly career development services and support staff, by promoting the teaching and empowerment of students in regards to career management.

Inspired by the most recent scientific research on the functioning of the brain and on its capacity to learn and integrate new material, CARISM^® presents a unique framework for career planning and development by targeting six key-objectives essential to student success:

C	Choose a career that is truly suitable
A	Acquire the competencies to compete and perform
R	Research, with flair, field work and job opportunities
I	Integrate the work world successfully
S	Satisfy professional aspirations throughout their life span
M	Maintain their competencies updated to remain competitive

 

The Job Market Constellations Map^© and the workbook A Practical Guide to Manage Your Career by Objectives^© are the tools that enable counsellors, teachers, parents as well as community partners to better coordinate their efforts so students can learn to:

• Become the central actors in their career success
• Make use of a common platform to dialogue, explore, validate, chose, and manage career objectives now and throughout their working lives

Research completed in 2007 at a Pennsylvania community college revealed that using CARISM^® made a notable difference among students in four specific ways:

1. it challenged them to clarify and establish their career objectives
2. it provided them with a clearer vision of their trajectory once their studies were completed
3. it offered an incentive to complete their studies
4. it was an inspiration towards realizing the importance of what they could contribute to their community through the career they would undertake
