"Life is too short

"Life is too short to be sad at work." - Jacques Séguéla
The sad fact: At 42, Anne-Marie has grown an impressive career as a sales representative in the healthcare industry. Given her in-depth knowledge of the field, she sees the writing on the wall: sales are down, cost control measures are up, which in turn pollute the work environment. The collaborative work culture she thrives on is over as everybody feels a sword of Damocles hanging over their heads.
The outlook: While meeting with her career coach, she realises she could target employers outside her field who would highly value her collaborative philosophy at work. She also wants to get back into working for a high-growth company.
The action plan: Her coach shows her how to polish her resume, highlight emotional intelligence skills and research high-growth employers of interest. She learns to put into practice a technique her career coach teaches: how to engage the right person at the right time.

The ascent: Mateo, 29, works as a mechanical engineer and team leader for an aerospace manufacturer. He quickly rose through the ranks and is now facing conflicts with some of his team members. He cannot understand the source of the quibbles and feels powerless to stop them.
The doubts: Mateo suddenly starts questioning his skills. Has he overreached? Is he suited for this post? Should he consult the HR department?
The stance: After a few meetings with a coach and career counsellor, Mateo undertands that through his promotions, he went from a collaborative environment to a competitive and then a political one, where individualism seems to be the norm. Reconnecting with his inner strengths as a communicator and strategist, he proceeds to outline opportunities to grow and focusses on improving his leadership and negotiating skills to better navigate through this new reality.

The opportunity: Sandrine, 38, works on the marketing team of a small, dynamic and fast-growing company. For the past 2 years, she has had her eye on the Team Leader position, but she is feeling the “glass ceiling” effects. As her frustration resurfaces for the umpteenth time, a head hunter calls…
The objective: Understanding the risks associated with making an impulsive move, Sandrine decides to first meet with a career coach. After openly venting her frustrations, she is able to rigorously evaluate her options according to what would make her happy on a more sustainable basis.
The result: After 3 meetings with her career coach, Sandrine feels confident in moving forward and has even found a mentor within the company to help her craft her pitch to executives for the post of Team Leader. She also set a realistic deadline to achieve this goal and, if not succesful, will switch to plan B by contacting her network and specialized head hunters.
