PROFESSIONAL REHABILITATION >

Career change

Taking stock of personal skills to discover new career paths

Your client must change jobs or career after a disability period? A new career choice must be explored, identified and validated?

Our career change service is a two-step process:

  1. Assess current competencies, aptitudes, interests, motivations, and values, to then
  2. explore and validate new career avenues that are realistic and motivating to pursue.

With the help of well-known tools and efficient supervision, this proces provides your client with:

- A second chance to make a new career choice

  • Evaluate one’s motivations and take stock of work experiences, academic training and transferable skills
  • Understand the attitudes, behaviors and/or beliefs that can hinder one’s professional reintegration
  • Use of standardized psychometric career testing
  • Complete a psychosocial assessment (health, physical, family and social, emotional stability)
  • Track professions or trades corresponding to one’s career typologies and work profile
  • Validate career options that consider functional limitations, job prospects and labor market requirements
  • Set clearly realistic goals and make an action plan

- Enhance confidence

  • Reframing of fixed, negative and anxiety-driven emotions and thoughts
  • Learn techniques inspired by research on the psychology of success and resilience

VICTOR: AN EXCITING NEW CAREER AT 37

A test case

The case: Victor, 37, has been working for 15 years as a machinist and toolmaker in a factory. He loves his job and is appreciated by both his colleagues and boss. Unfortunately, Victor had to take a medical leave following a work accident which left him with 3 fingertips missing. Ouch!

The challenge: Despite a few surgeries giving him back some dexterity, Victor can no longer manipulate the tools he uses at work and cannot go back to the same workstation. He needs to find something else, but what? Victor has many productive years ahead of him and his expertise is valuable.

The solution: After 8 sessions with a career counsellor, Victor learned to make peace with his physical limitations and honed into the deep experience and knowledge he has acquired over the years. He focussed on related interests and skills, which made him an ideal candidate for a position as a CAD drafter. After a few refresher courses, he relaunched his career and is once again an active member of his employer’s workforce.
